Great idea! For me, it's the acronyms that are difficult or impossible to cypher. And even in the body of the post, often the location is not stated.

    Third annual GMPPD hang.

It's that time again and we are looking forward to it. If you haven't been, make plans to come visit, free Snickers and lottery tickets to everyone.

How about having a forum section just for hangs, like the section for For Sale Items???

I agree totally, How to enforce without putting that on the Mods? We already can't edit our thread titles. I don't want to twist this but if the thread titles could be edited by the thread owners, this could be made a lot easier on the Mods. I don't see and drawback to it.

PLUS I also want my Snickers and Lottery ticket! Long as I don't have to drive far for it. Do I?

    "COLORADO: Gray Wolf Mountain Hang"

    etc...
I like the idea and will be glad to do it on my next trip planning thread, (if I remember.)

+++++ 1 on this - There is great value in the ability to edit/update a primary post, especially on a planning thread, otherwise there either needs to be a lot of scrolling or post duplication with updates made, (which is the M.O. of which I'm guilty). (Gringo - if I forget idea uno above, feel free to prod me on it. )

Also a good idea, I will try to make sure that I speak English when putting titles on planning threads. (I could really go for a Snickers now )

Awww. You had to go and use the "E" word.

I was sold on the idea of leading with the state/location in all caps.

I Love the idea of thread editing of initial post by OP.

I also have committed to using grown up words and not just letters.

Where I balk now is the idea of "enforcement".

The suggestions given are great and would improve/enhance the recognition of and understanding of planning threads. I agree with wyleone that putting one more thing on the moderators is not the way to go. Such suggestions, IMHO, should be self policing. With our membership now pushing the 15,000 mark, over half a million posts and over 35,000 threads. Our Moderators have enough to do. (I do recognize that the same argument about our numbers could be made to support a title standardization policy. Grrr. )

2.) Also, if a new thread pops up post a reply asking the OP to start using this new system.

3.) Lastly, post more replies to this thread! People tend to look at threads with 10 pages on them to see what it's all about.

Such a section does exist. From the "Home Page", go to "Forums". Scroll down to "Outings" and you'll see a section for planning trips and one for reporting.

I agree 100%, ability to edit titles could have this problem licked in a week.

I agree here as well. A hard & fast rule is probably not going to be effective but it also isn't required. If you come to the forum and every post title is done in this way; you will naturally format your post that way.

Just be conscientious of the newbs (like me) when you are posting up your new "hang" plans.
