    Gear Checklist

Several recent threads regarding how you store your gear at home has motivated me to get better organized... so I laid out all my gear in one place:

...then I weighed each item (that might end up in my pack) and created this spreadsheet which will serve as an inventory list, trip checklist, meal planner, and weight accumulator.

This is just a simple Excel spreadsheet... I'll be glad to email it to anyone interested in adapting it for their use (or improving it).

Finally, I bought several of these gear totes and will now organize the gear in each tote by category - then store everything in one closet.

My stuff has been scattered all over (garage, bedroom, closet, truck, etc.) - thrilled to get it all organized and in one spot - and this checklist will be a great trip planner tool. Thanks for the motivation... Good Stuff.

    Re: Gear Checklist

Organization makes life easier... When you know where it is and how much it weighs it becomes easier to lighten up and to get out or the house... My pack usually stays packed with all the basics and then just food and water is needed to get out the door..

I have been entering all of my equipment in a spreadsheet on geargrams.com. It allows me to pull from the main spreadsheet to create different lists.

More organized than ever before but I feel I'm still a long ways away!

Granny Pat thanks for sharing that website. I just checked it out and I am very excited about how easy it was to use and how much I think it can help me in saving pack weight.

Smart move, hawghangar. Got mine in one place but not quite organized yet. My old gear was very tidy, which made it easy to give to my son in hampers like yours there.

That is a nifty program, alright.

Got my base pack weight down to 12.57 pounds and think I'll call it good. Those digital scales are great, huh?

I discovered geargrams.com when someone here mentioned it awhile back.

You can add a lot of food with a base weight that low! I'm still having fun with the scale. Husband still rolls his eyes.

I started using geragrams a while ago, it really is a great tool, although my gear as disorganized (and heavy) as ever and will be until I move out of ths nasty flat/apartment and into a house with an attic/loft? (...what do you guys call it???) or a garage.
Looks like you've got it sorted, well done
