amsteel carabiners using a diamond knot

I've been impressed with Amsteel in whoopie slings and other suspension applications, and was reading various threads about biners made from cordage...

I googled "diamond knot", and found a number of videos, of which the most helpful was:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn4dLvaiCEM

I learn best by doing, so I made 8 sheff-biners of various lengths using some amsteel that I ordered recently:

The diamond knots didn't turn out as pretty as some I've seen, but they both work on the amsteel and hold a loop as a carabiner...best of all, I've learned a new knot and have some fun/light DIY-biners...

I've also been making these "nacrabiners" based on this thread: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=9059. The diamond knot was difficult for me to learn, but with practice is really knot too hard. (I know- bad pun).

I'm not sure what knot he is tying, but it isn't Ashley's Two Strand Diamond Knot (#781) and I don't believe it is the Carrick bend based version of the Lanyard Knot. Tough to decipher... anybody know for sure?

The one I learned was a continuation of the carrick bend with an extra 2 steps to make the knot.

Might be wise to make those with the locking loop on the other end, as the nacrabiner does (like so: http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery...php?i=6170&c=4 ). I don't think those would hold very securely without it....

They can be secured using a girth hitch or clove hitch.

    Warning: this is a repeat

I really like the clove hitch on a loop shackle, Albert! Using the clove hitch, you can make a loop shackle from any kind of cord. It becomes very quick and easy to make one in the field.

I use a girth hitch on all of mine. Anybody who can create a locking loop that centered perfectly enough on the line to equally load both legs is a miracle worker. I'm just not that accurate with my diamond knot so one leg always ends up much more heavily loaded.

There's one on each end of my hammock and they haven't dropped my butt yet.

edit: Mac, do you have any problem with the clove hitch locking up after it's been loaded?
