Also, Eureka Plumas state park and the Nat. Forest area that's around there. Sidewinder and I did a great trip in that area. Look up Mount Elwell on the map. Tons of lakes and peaks. I will second the Grouse Ridge and Yuba suggestions, as well.

Welcome! Can't do Nov. 9. But, we'll have to do something soon.

Oh, and as far as the fire's concerned, be sure to check and see if it's OK. There are usually signs at trailheads, etc. You'll need a permit, too.

Awesome photos! That's where we are camping. Do you know if we need a permit to have a fire there or can we just make one?

Thanks a lot Kapang! Question about the permits. Do I only need one for Plumas or pretty much everywhere including seven loch lake?

Go by any BLM office or Forest Service office and ask for your free campfire permit. This will allow you to use backpacking stoves and have a campfire when not in developed campgrounds. As long as fire restrictions are not in place. They are good for a year.

Terrific! There is one right by my house in Grass Valley and I'll pick one up there.

We'll have to organize a group hang sometime so I can meet some of the locals.

Easiest way to get a fire permit good for all of California thru the end of the year:
    http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/sequoi...fsbdev3_059516

Scroll down to the bottom, click on “4 question quiz”, take the quiz, print the permit…

    CA>NorCal>No Idea > November 9th??

    +1 on hung low's link.
I usual print it 4 to a page, cut 'Em up and drop them into each kit (overnight, backpack & car camp)
So Cal here. Manage to find a tree or 2.

I will be in Palo Alto all next week, November 4-8. I am looking for a 1 day, easy camp, Saturday Nov 9th. I have a recent, 6 weeks, Achilles tendon surgery healing up so I cannot hike too far. My plan is to drive down to Big Sur, and drive into Botcher's Gap. I can camp at the camp there, non to little hiking, or walk off into the woods a bit and find a nice place down by the river.

My thought is the lows will be around 45-50, and a chance of rain.

For those who know Big Sur does this sound right?

I would love to hike to crazy land Sykes, just so I could see it and take a dip. But 1. it's too far for my ankle, 2. I hear it's a zoo all year round.

    Thoughts, ideas, input, all welcome

    Ciao
