DIY Integrated bug net on Tablecloth

I just finished up my DIY Bug net for my Tablecloth hammock. It came out a little tight. I may have to take the seam ripper and adjust it. The photos show how tight the final product was, keep in mind there is no ridgeline! I used the plans from DIY Gear Supply. The problem is more than likely from not pinning the entire zipper before starting to sew (ie.. pin a few inches sew a few inches and re-pin, repeat). I do like the olive green bug net on the sage green tablecloth.

If you look real close in the first image you can see my daughter trying to talk little brother out of the hammock so she can hang.

Nice looking work...wait, you said no RL?! Yeah, IMHO, that might be a little tight.

Before you go at it with a seam ripper, measure the length of the bugnetting as it hangs and make a ridgeline that length.

It may work out for you as the sag looks ok in the pic.

If you were to remove the ridgeline from a manufactured hammock (WBBB, etc.) and string it up tight and sit in it, the netting would be stretched extremely tight the same as is happening in your pictures and may even rip entirely. I remember someone merely lengthening the stock WBBB ridgeline a few inches and hanging the hammock too tightly and ripping the bugnetting away from the hammock.

I think a ridgeline may fix this issue?

If you make a hammock with an integrated bugnet and no ridgeline, I believe you need to make the netting nearly as long as the hammock itself (as with non-ideal hanging lengths/angles the hammock could be stretched to its entire length).

Tendertoe I think you are on to something. I did not put the ridge line back on because I was in such a hurry to go test it out. The bug netting has now become the ridgeline and is the limiting factor on the swag. When I bought the zipper I also picked up some "Tech line" from DIY Gear Supply with the intent on replacing my 550 cord ridgeline. Can't wait to get back home!

Let us know how it goes.

I hope this is the issue and will get you hanging without ripping your netting or you having to redo the entire thing.

Thanks cinnamon, the hammock has gathered/whipped ends I sewed the zipper/bug net to within an inch and a half from the gathering. Then sewed the hammock together over the bug net. I used big long single stitch pattern to do this so that if I ever want to change to a channel end It wont be hard to take out.
