I suppose if I was expecting a storm, the most bullet-proof way to pitch would be ridge-line low and side pulls staked rather than pole mod. I might consider this only because it might allow me to use the side-pulls -- not so much for adding space under the tarp, but more just to ensure (expecting the storm of the century) that the tarp was fastened to the ground at two more points.

That being said, I would have to do a test pitch or two to verify, but if memory serves, because the pulls are located more towards the top, you can get a steep pitch angle on the sides without worrying about over stressing the pole or pulls. It would have to be a forecasted barn buster before I'd really worry about it.

    Hi Tbird,
I sure wouldn't want you to break anything. I was just thinking in full storm mode it would be nice to have the extra room the pullout/pole mod gives you. I like the pole idea since it pulls more up and out vs staking the pullout to the ground. Which is more out and down giving you less room inside. I have used hiking poles to give me a better angle on the pullouts. But I don't think that is better than the pole. Too many pieces too many lines to trip on.

Right . . .no worries. I think you can still get a really low pitch that is ample for a gully-washer and still use the pole mod. I mean, as I pitched it, it was far from having any significant tension. Remember, the pole doesn't connect to directly t the tarp body. There are straps that come up from the side-pulls and those have some adjustability. In addition, the nano-light poles offer plenty of flex if needed (they are the same pole that are inserted into free-standing dome ten sleeves), and finally the side-pulls are located closer to the top of the tarp-side than even mid-way.

I'll try to get some more pics this weekend!

In this pic, the tarp is pitched pretty high and the corner guy-out is actually lashed to a tree rather than staked. You can however, see that the pole is almost flat and is pretty high up the side. If I were to drop the whole setup close to the ground and bring the corner lines down, it would be storm ready and might have a little flex to the pole, but well within the specs of the pole and materials.

According to the website the Tadpole Pole Kit: "* Only weights 2 oz"
I'm not sure if he's talking just the pole or the pull-out adapters as well, but whatever, it's worth the weight to me.

    Yep,

    haven't weighed it yet-but . . . .

    Those nano-lite poles are nano-lite

The web straps weigh almost nano-nothing

The idea of not needing two additional stakes and cordage is

The full blown Tadpole with doors and pole mod

I just got back from the 2nd annual NOVA November Hang in Prince William Forest Park.

It was my first opportunity to use my new door kits and pole mod with my tadpole. My reviews are pretty straight forward. This light weight tarp went from a great tarp to an excellent tarp.

I snapped some photos of the setup, check em out.

That name "Tadpole" is very misleading that is not a small tarp.
    It looks just right.
No wonder so many are being sold on the Black Friday sale.
