    How's the hangin in Arizona?

I've traded my Minnesota Boundary Waters trip for ten days of camping with my son in Arizona ... in early August.

We will be camping near places with names like Arivaica, Luna Lake, and Black Canyon Lake. Is anybody familiar with these places? If so ....
    1) any trees for hanging?
    2) if I need to go to ground in my WBBB 1.7 DL, do I need to be concerned about scorpions snuggling up next to me at night?
    3) am I crazy to trade Minnesota for Arizona in early August?

all have ponderosa pines and juniper and aspen, in spots.
august there (black canyon lake, for instance) while at 7,000 feet will be pleasant. expect 80/48

do your homework on www.hikearizona.com since there are some restrictions and closures in some forests. looks like a great time!

Thank you, te-wa! I've only glanced at it, but that site looks like it has just the type of info I'm seeking. I appreciate the help.

.... I'm off to explore the site.

I have not been there in many years, but there are endless GREAT places to hang, as long as you are high enough in elevation, which is not hard to do.

That is, if every tree in AZ has not burned down during the huge fires of the last few years!

    Thanks for the help, everybody.

My son is leading a bird watching tour there in mid-August (I never knew before that Arizona is prime birding territory in August). He wants to scout the area ahead of time because the wildfires have changed bird migration patterns.

birding is another thing that is really cool, but i dont know much about it. there are some seasonal offerings like this Elegant Trogon, the national bird of Cuba (colors of their flag) and it can be found in S. arizona in the spring. here's a vid of one birder chasing the trogon around Patagonia, AZ.

Another option for birding is the San Pedro River in southern AZ. Should be hot, but I've been there and it's really nice.
