Where can I find the map to get closer to Eagles nest?I know there is an other parking area other than 183 just not sure how to get to it. I may be able to come but would be later.... like 6.

Aw, shucks, gotta go somewhere else this weekend! But, Dutch, I didn't let the rain scare me inside last Friday so at least I have one night hanging in the last week. It rained so hard that the water was a running a quarter inch deep down the hill under the tarp (and i was hanging from a 3 1/2 foot wide tree on the uphill side!). The wind swirled most of the night so it would hit from the left side and then from the right side within ten seconds. The wind pushed my Speer Winter Tarp so hard that even with a tieout (grip clip) on each side, the tarp would push into the hammock and move me over six inches or more.
When my wife asked me how the night was, I told her "Noisy and bumpy."
Have fun guys!
Aghhh I have a wedding to be at :banghead:

I'm just using the AT map. If I were arriving late I would just walk the dirt road that runs along side the AT to the shelter trail. You will definately have to keep your eyes open for the blue blaze trail. I have to go to work now but I will try to scan teh map in the AM when i get home.
Peace Dutch

I don't know how well the Sand Spring Trail is marked but I bet it is pretty straight fwd. To get there you take teh Shartlesville exit from 78 and head north on Forge Dan Road to N Northkill Road. turn right on Northkill and you will come to a parking area where the road is gated. Lookslike 2 miles to the shleter. If anyone takes the jeep road from 183 you turn left on the AT after about 3 miles. The shelter trail is just an 1/8 mile north of there. I will be parking at 183 and hiking North on the AT. Gotta start packing, no rest for the weary.
Peace Dutch

Thanks Dutch. I looked at Pa. map and that is the way I was thinking after seeing it. If it works for me with timing I would be there by 7. If not I'll catch you all next time.
Wish I had found this sooner. I wish I could join you but there is just too much for me to do around the house this weekend. I have a huge honey do list.
Maybe I'll setup in my backyard tonight.
