    First go at splicing amsteel

I've been looking at 25' of amsteel for a few weeks, deciding what to try first and checking out some great threads on this site; it really is a great place to get information. I wanted to be able to detach my WBBB ridge line so I've made a new ridge line with a dutch biner at the head end. I made two lengths of amsteel with locked brummel fixed eyes at each end. One length is about 12" long so that the biner is above the head end, the other length was measured to make sure the overall length ended up being the same length as the original RL. Overall I'm really pleased with how it turned out, it was a bit of a guess to work out how much the final bury would shorten the length, but an inch worked out well. Now I'm looking at my whoopies and prussics and itching to make more stuff.

Going to try to convert my CTRL from figure 9 and dog bone, to Dutch hook and flyz next.

    Thanks for looking.

Thanks. It is much easier than it looks, just takes a bit of figuring out first time round. It's a great feeling to make something from a length of rope.

Nice looking job. When I first started splicing I had HUGE blisters on my thumb and fore finger. Very painful but so worth it. Keep up the good work.

+1 I have to say I've enjoyed all the fiddling with cord. It's a new experience for me.

Only 25 feet of Amsteel? That wouldn't last me a day - I flew through my first order of 200 feet, and 180 feet of Zing-It. Then I bought some Amsteel remnants from Redden Marine a few months ago, and had to order more Zing-It and another 100 ft. of Amsteel to feed my addiction.

    Rope splicing is fun!

I made two whoopies, your right on the sore thumbs. Was fun. not bad for first time

my hardest part was splicing it inside. 7/64 line is small. and trying to feed it through was a choir. I used a section of copper wire with clear tape & lube.
