    Is it a true soft shackle though? It may be hard to see in the picture but there is no adjustable bury. Basically a locked brummel with fixed bury and the adjustable part is sort of a half brummel.

    Yes that's a variation of the soft shackle that is very useful. Since it doesn't have a bury, it's slightly easier to use your fingernails to grab the loop and open it.

    Opie calls it a soft shackle prusik. I made a bunch for connecting tarp to ridgeline using Opie's instructions:

    That's exactly what it came off. I made a bunch of copies for some tarps I modified but wanted to know what exactly it was I was making.
