Great idea Sgt. Rock! I love it! I think I'll make one myself. This past weekend I used an IX sock and it got down to 12°F or so. Getting in/out was more difficult than I would like and I actually tore the IX when my foot caught the edge of the sock. Having a WHUG would be much better, IMO.
In fact, I wonder if you made the WHUG with a foot box -- almost like a half bivy sack? I like bouncing ideas...

I actually sketched out plans for something like that. But I didn't like how it looked - it looked more complicated than it seemed it should be. I think there is potential there, but I don't know what it would look like yet.
I pulled the trigger on some 0.9 momentum yesterday to make the final version of my WHUG with. I don't know if WHUG is the right name, I figure it is your plan, you should name the winter version.
I took my prototype out for a hang last night with temps in the high 20's (F). It provided a nice bubble of warm air around my head but I also learned 2 things:
1. With DWR fabric the dull side is the outside and the shinny side is the inside. At 0530 I woke up to a small rainstorm on my head when the DWR finish shed water on my head from my breath condensing on the inside of the cover.
2. Even when I do go right side out next time, it may be a good idea to implement some form of vent system. Humidity was close to 80% this morning so I had a good test of breathability under more extreme trail conditions.
My 0.9 material came in and I finished the "final" version this morning. I hope to get out and test it, but the near term weather isn't going to be very cold on the nights I'm not working. I added a couple of vent windows in it, but with the 0.9 and using nanoseeum left overs I was able to keep the weight at 3.32 ounces. I'll try and get some pics up later.

It's done: Since Hike2Hang was only worried about mosquitoes, I made it from some camo "fashion tulle" that was on sale at Joann's for $2/yd. This stuff is much stronger that normal tulle, and drapes well...Originally Posted by Hike2Hang
Patch was made from some 1.1 camo ripstop, and I backed the velcro with 1" grosgrain to ensure durability. Since the tulle doesn't unravel, I left it a rectangle so it can be trimmed to fit the hammock later. As it sits, it's an amazing 3.3oz or 94g. I'm sure after trimming, it'll lose that .3 oz...
Now I have to rethink my hammock. I was going to add a footbox to my 1.1 single, and sew on a zipper and bugnet... but if this is 3oz lighter, and still roomy... Not to mention the options with the Winter model! Hmmm....

As for pre-made HUGs, there's a guy on the forums who is making/selling them on a website. I'll have to search again to find the link.

Was this in the same area as the regular tulle?
