    Newbie hammocker first setup

    Hey everyone,

So I'm about to pull the trigger on my first hammock and I've decided to get the ENO doublenest. I have a few questions though. After reading through these forums, I think I understand the basics but I just want to make sure. All I need is some 8ft whoopie slings to replace the stock ones, maybe 2 lighter carabiners, and 2- 8ft 1-inch webbings to wrap around the tree?

Also on a random note, any suggestions on how to rig a set up using a car? I'm going camping next month and this park doesn't allow anything hanging on trees or plants. Thanks for your help!

When tying to a car look at the strength of what you're tying to. Roll cages good.

I'd recommend making it easy on yourself and buying an all-in-one kit from one of the cottage vendors listed throughout this site. Also, you may want to consider cinch buckles rather than whoopies; if you're not worried about backpacking weight, cinches are simpler and very sturdy. I personally recommend Arrowhead Equipment's set.

Thanks for the advice. I am a bit worried about backpack weight though because I plan on using this when I backpack as well.

This was recommended recently in another thread as a suspension kit (for under 30$)

The folks at Butt-in-a-sling have a great starter kit for $55 that takes care of everything you need. I have tried it and it's pretty slick.

The weight difference is incredibly minuscule between webbing and whoopies. I would personally only worry about that difference if you're doing some very extended hiking.
