Looking for Best Ultralight Tarp Guylines

I switched to the EZC 2 line for winter and love it. I really like that it's reflective and although it's heaver - It isn't slippery like most cord and it holds knots better. I do not bring tent stakes in winter because I just tie knots with deadman anchors instead.

Ah, yes. I had to use one of those under rocks when setting up on the banks of the French Broad River for the Hot Springs hang. Makes sense. I had been using dynaglyde for my guylines. I still have the old lengths. I may want to hold on to them in case I ever do winter camping.

I don't believe the breaking strength(bs) numbers 300kg =675lb or that the most expensive Dyneema, SK90, is being used. Who is going to check these claims for throw rope, which if broken will likely have it happen when it is snagged and yanked? It seems Marlows is following the practice of other companies doing the same with throw line. It is likely the same stuff as Stein Safety throw line. It is also stronger than needed for tarp lines.

As to size: Other line of the same wt per length, such as Yale Ultrex, has a greater nominal size, 1.8-2mm. So this may not pack as small as implied, for those who care.

I can only go by the company's claims, which in perspective would be a little foolish to fudge the figures being they prove most UK arborists climbing ropes.
Its not my company though, so who really knows without the relevant tests.

As per strength, any type of dyneema is overkill for guy lines if we are being honest. Its the happy balance between weight/strength/wear/pack-ability.

My purchase was based on weight, wear and tear (read several user reviews), color and being tight~ price. It works for me

Do you guys get Marlows throw line?

1.6gms per meter, 1.5mm diameter and a whopping 300kg breaking strain. Just picked up 50 meters for next to nothing (compared to the same length in zing-it).

I have this stuff... it's great, very slippery though, and quite difficult (for me) to splice. 300kg (660#) I put it next to a ruler and it looks more like 1mm than 1.5mm.

If it is 1mm, then it certainly cannot have the breaking strength you report or the weight reported elsewhere. At 1mm rather than 1.5mm, its volume and therefor strength is 1 /(1.5**2) = 1 / 2.25 ~ 45% the strength.

I just ordered some. I don't trip on my own lives so much as others do, but that was enough. I am looking forward to seeing how it works.

Notice that it is also 100% Dyneema and also 1.4mm...........just like the stuff with the Marlow label that claims to have twice the breaking strength? Or did someone writing the advert for Marlow confuse kg for lb?

Like the cordage counter-guy at the arborist supplier says to me. "The rep throws me a line, and I know the claims are so much BS. But, its good stuff. "
