    Webbing Stretch

My old polypropylene straps stretch way too much. What's the least stretchable webbing out there?

I've had great results with Ed Speer's stuff...it stretches when it's new, but pretty much stays stretched out after you use it a few times.

I used polyester straps at the SEHHA and I was surprised how little they stretched.

I just got one of his hammock's in the mail yesterday. Do you hang it, get in and lay around get out redo the straps, get back in, get out redo the straps, etc, etc or is this over time. Just trying to figure out what to expect

You'll get a fair amount of stretch right off the bat...about 15 minutes of laying in the hammock and you'll notice it. I always try to "pre-stretch" before taking a trip, just so I don't have to deal with it on the trail.

You should only have to adjust it once or twice when you first use it. Lay in the hammock for a little while and then go back and re-tighten the straps. You may have to do this again.

If you are using trees that are spaced far apart, meaning that you have a longer length of webbing between the hammock and the tree, you may have to tighten the straps more often until they stretch out.

wish I had time but I don't so it will be on the trail.

Ed, says trees should be 12-16' apart..is that the normal spacing?

I second that. I use these, and have been very pleased with them. Almost no stretch at all.

That is the optimal for Ed's hammocks. I like to hang my HH about 15-18'. About 5-6 paces. However, I've had to go over 20' a couple of times. NBD, but the rope stretches a little more. I have to hang it higher to compensate so that I don't end up dragging. Just some of the fun stuff that you learn over time!
    Peace,
    Joe

Yes that's normal spacing but some times it's may be hard to find that exact space between trees. My tarp has a 12' ridge line so I need at least 15' for my setup. Always try and hang the shorter distance if you have the option.
