I too will something make and joy in it's making
Any car would be to low IMO, On Jeeps you have racks or roll cages. We use a lot of Tow Vehicles. On our Goose neck trailer I can use the stake pockets to drop a couple of 2X4 along one side or angle my Hammock. Spidennis could make a simi permant attachment on his trailer and hang probably 4 or more hammocks right above the deck of the trailer.
Are you going to be dropping the trailer at night? If so, it might be possible to weld up something that fits in the receiver. I figured that a square tube at right angle with a hook to tie off of, and then you could attach to your crossed 4x4's on the other end.
I don't have an pictures, but I hung while out in the field, on a tank recovery vehicle (the name of which escapes me right now). Basically, there was a big arm, and I tied both ends to it and slept away.

I am having trouble finding fiberglass poles. I would love to have (2) fiberglass poles, each eight feet long. Among other things, they would be useful for hanging between vehicles, without making fast to the vehicles themselves.

MacEntyre,
Think ‘push pole’ … boat (metal/wood), electric power line (fiberglass).

I was given this link to a pole manufacturer a while back. I've not bought any, but here's the link. Good luck!

The thickest fiberglass pole listed there seems to be 1/2". I would think something stronger than that might be needed for this application?

Ok. I was wondering how you would hang from fiberglass tent poles. I guess I didn't have the gist of what exactly they were going to be used for. These folks still might know where to find solid fiberglass poles though.

To be used for hanging, the poles have to be lightweight, rigid, one piece poles like those used for tree pruning. Every store that carries poles has only 6' one-piece poles, and extension poles.
This morning, I found Fred Marvin poles at pruner.com. They make both fiberglass and octagonal ash poles. I've asked for a quote on 8' poles.
When I'm not hanging on them, they will serve as awning supports for the Scamp. I have another use for them, which I will reveal when I can make pictures. Until then, it's a secret project!
