Alright, first I want to thank everyone that offered advice and steered me towards the older machines. Im pretty happy with my purchases.

First up is the White machine. The cabinet is in good condition as is the machine. It had quite a few feet, lots of bobbins, the manual and even the original sales receipt from 1972. Cost then was $199 for the machine. I paid $40.

Next up was a lucky find. I decided to cruise CL one more time before heading to pick up the white. I found this machine just 30 minutes south of where I picked up the white. Nicest little old Polish lady that bought the machine new and its in good condition minus a couple small aesthetic issues. Ill get them taken care of. Not as many accessories or manual, she said it was in a rental house of hers and the tenants misplaced most of the extras. I did not find it a big deal because the machine and table are in pretty good condition. She was asking $95. I offered $60 and we settled on $75.

I was in the area today and picked up that one. More than I ever paid for any before, $50.00 but it had EVERYTHING.
I'll post in the injector thread later

I think you did very well - two solid machines in tables for 'just over $100' + a bit of gas and driving.

Both of those machines probably take standard presser feet and needles ? bobbins?

The Necchi was a good find. Lelia 515 model? You probably won't use the auto buttonhole feature very much, but it's a great solid straight and ZZ machine. A real classic.

When I was trying to ID it, I came across a couple of links which you may have found already:
    http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diag...ng_Diagram.htm

    http://tammyscraftemporium.blogspot....on-manual.html

BTW, folks on a couple of different 'vintage sewing machine' (Pfaff & Elna) Yahoo groups are recommending Howard Restor-a-Finish (sp ?) for a quick re-do on the sewing tables, if that's something that interests you. I've used a Howard product (oil) on guitar fingerboards and it is good stuff. Howard products are usually available at H.Depot in my area, not sure about MI.

    Good shoppin' !!

I believe the necchi is a 513 model. That's what my searching is telling me. I didn't look up the 515, but I'll check.

Sitting here checking them out and the white runs pretty well. I think it needs a cleaning but that's it.

Remember... Singer spelled backwards is White. There are a lot of things on a white that are the reverse of Singer. (At least this used to be the case) The fly wheel turns the other way and a number of other things. That could cause some confusion when switching between two machines. But White had a reputation of being very good machines.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Very nice opie.

One caution on the Necchi...I think you will find that it has a plastic "spiral cam" for the stitch length adjustments. My Supernovas do and it looks like the same adjusting setup. The reverse button also uses this to control the stitch length in reverse. Sometimes this piece breaks and can only be replaced from a donor machine. The theory is the breaking is a result of letting the reverse button pop out instead of letting it out. So......don't slide your finger off of the reverse button allowing it to pop out.

    They are great machines.

TZBrown...I like the Mira. I have an Esperia which I think is a straight stitch only version that I like very much.

Looks like you have a couple nice machines to keep you busy for quite a while.

I highly recommend Howard Restore A Finish for that cabinet. I forgot to take a before picture of the second cabinet that I did but I do have a close up of something sitting on it.
