Cograts man. I started my cuben adventure with a cuben packa, and then the tarp from HG. Re-flippin-diculous how light this stuff is, it's addicting.

Edit because I forgot: I just received a cuben hip pocket and accesory lid / bag thing from Joe at Zpacks, both solve problems and replace heavier counterparts. Told you it was addicting!

I'm thinking about selling a kidney to get a cuben tarp.

I LOVE my OMW but I'm giving serious consideration to getting a cuben tarp from HG. Saved half a pound switching UQ's. I could save 3/4 lb switching tarps. Probably the biggest single item I can replace and save the most weight. My back would definitely be happier

My biggest issue with the cuben tarps is width. Especially in the winter. Im pretty tal and would like the "standard" 9-10' for lower pitches, but Im gonna see what I can get out of the 8.5'. I coming from a BmJ so Im saving 50%.

And as I understand it it's pretty difficult or a hassle extending the width of the tarps, yeah? I like a wide tarp myself for cold weather for the same reasons, but I still hate having to bend over to be under my tarp. Just got a M50/90 (can't remember, think it was 90) UQ which is supposed to be pretty windresistant so breezes don't steal your heat. Might be the way to go along with cuben and maybe a weathershield like the Danger Bird or BBO.

You should post some pics of it when you get it so we can see what a black one looks like

Slo,,I just unloaded my OES 10' x 12',,,but giving the wife the OMW to use as I just hate to part with it..and ordering a cuben 4 season in place of the OES to decrease pack weight. Just got a set of cuben chaps off Joe at ZPacks as the start of my conversion to cuben..and I must say,,after getting the chaps,,I am sucked in on cuben. I will get this first tarp in cuben then probably part with OMW for another for the wife later on.

I do a lot of dualsport motorcycle riding so am not as concerned with weight as when i hike but am very concerned with bulk. How much room will a cuben save? A real world example of syl vs. Cuben packed size (for two tarps of the same dimensions) would be geat. The weight would be the secondary reason for me, and a great bonus, but a smaller packed size is most important.

    +1 on HG cuben tarp.

I have used it twice now and really REALLY impressed.
The bonus factor is that that you dont really need line tensioners as cuben has negligible stretch when wet. (no expert but i would say zero stretch when wet)

My wife hasn't seen the cuben tarp yet.

I can already hear her now.."so why do YOU have that tarp and i only have this hennessey stock asym silnylon tarp?" or words to that effect!!
