Insultex Breathable...really?

I have just started an experiment adding a layer of IX to the out side of 1 layer of 2.5 oz/sq.yd Climashield WB torso UQ. In place of additional layers of CS. First impressions are very positive at 35F.

But now I am wondering if the VB effect will be enough to cause a problem. What do y'all think? I could start with the addition of a space blanket ( or even IX) cut out next to the hammock, then it should be even warmer and the VB effect of the IX would be moot.

What would you estimate for the wind, temp and humidity?

You said you were toasty... would you say that you were warmer than necessary, or just right?

Doctari has a weathershield made of IX with a nylon outer layer. You can see it in this video (about half way through).

I made a climashield/IX UQ last year. I was impressed with cold weather testing (20's). I experienced the moisture issue when used in warmer weather (40's). If I made it again I would leave a strip down the outside middle with breathable material similar to some weather shield designs and cuben quilts.

If this thread indicates that condensation is a real problem, I think this idea may be the solution. Perhaps, leaving a 3" wide strip down the middle with no IX would solve any problems.

I just made a 3-layer TQ with IX. At 13 oz., I'm willing to work with it. I whipped the bottom and used some shock cord and a XS S-Biner to attach the whipped end to the foot of the hammock. My gosh, is that stuff warm!. I have one layer of UQ made, based on the measurements of my Stormcrow 3-season burrow. I have enough for one more layer. If I can find somewhere to buy 3 yards, I'll have a top and bottom IX quilt set that weighs less than my Winter down TQ. DUDE!

And yes, it's somewhat breathable. I can blow through it, though slowly.

Use the IX either closest to you, or with nothing but IX. I just tested the 3-layer TQ at 60 degrees. GEEZE is that thing warm! I'm headed to 20s-30s. It should be great.

But then again, I'm pretty bold. So it will work even if I have to force something!

Edit: Does anyone have 3 yards of IX to get rid of? I bought 15 from Stormcrow, but have already mostly used that up. Should have bought more!

Edit: Warm at 40. Cool at 30. Would not like 20 AT ALL.

I've used a 3 layer Insultex under quilt and 3 layer Insultex top quilt and never had any condensation issues. I use the Insultex encased in nylon shells and no other insulation other than the clothes I'm wearing. Maybe the nylon shells make a difference somehow?? Don't immediately see how, but stranger things have happened to me.

Is this something like the past discussions on pads?

Some people simply cannot use pads because of back sweat and others have no sweat problems at all with pads !!
