For those times when you do need to pass the "bulk" through the machine's throat, just roll it up and use a few clothespins, etc to keep it that way.

Exactly - those wide clips to keep chip bags closed work really well also.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Have you sealed the ridge line and tested it yet? I'm wondering how easily it will seal with the grosgrain. What method did you use to join the silnylon and the grosgrain all together?

Drying as I post - flowable windshield sealant soaks right in.

    1. sew the top edges together - I used a 1/4 inch seam.
    2. fold 1" grosgrain in half - place it over the top edge and sew along the bottom of the grosgrain.
    3. After making the loops for the tie out ends, sew along the top edge of the grosgrain.

This goes into more detail. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...t=76344&page=4

OK - here's a step by step guide with pictures. I used a small piece of scrap syl and some grosgrain to show how the grosgrain is attached to the tarp edge and used to make a loop for the rings.

Nice job, hope my diy tarp is 1/2 as nice as this one...
It's not the glide in the ride, it's the swing in the sling...

Thanks, Vince. Getting a big enough space to work is the biggest problem. I work on a piece of 4x8 hardboard and it's still too small.

Just plan the tarp out in steps - and do one thing at a time. For me it was

    1. square the material and cut to the correct length

    2. stack the syl pieces on top of one another and line up the edges. I used a bunch of books to hold everything together instead of pins.

    3. Measure, mark and cut the cat curves all in one shot - with both sheets together you only have to do this once.

    4. sew all edge seams.

    5. Line up and pin the top edge and sew together - add the grosgrain and rings.

    6. add the pull outs, hang it up and be the envy of your neighborhood!
