I have been a very happy owner of a camper hammock for little over a year. I have used it many times over the last year. It just made it through a straight week at Boy Scout camp with rain almost every day. I noticed last night that it has developed an unpleasant odor.
What would be the recommended way to clean it? I want to get many more years outta this great hammock.
I have always washed mine in my washing machine in cold water set on gentle.
I strip it down, put a small amount of liquid detergent and run it. If it's extra stinky I add some oxyclean and let it soak a little while.
Hang it in the sunshine and pop open a cold brew. By the time you are finished with your drink the hammy will be dry...

Does stripping it down include removing the continuous loops from the end channels?
I wash mine in the bathtub, with non-scented laundry detergent. I rinse until all soap is gone, the last rinse I add some apple cider vinegar to the water. The vinegar smell goes away as the hammock dries. I hang the hammock until it is dry. I do not use a dryer, I let it air dry.
You could use a large commercial front loader to wash your hammock. Use minimal soap, remove all hardware. Front loading washing machines us less soap so do not over load with the soap. I use lukewarm water or cold, never hot. Apple Cider Vinegar, gets the soap residue out and helps get rid of odd smells.
Just for what it is worth, I rinse my hair with the vinegar also, gets rid of the junk left behind by the shampoo.

Just take it apart and re-whip it after you wash it.
