    Toggle length?

Does anyone see a problem with a 2 inch toggle? I would think it won't slip off that and it is still minimalist. How long is your toggles?

Okay with solomon bar on your whoopie loop to slide up to the toggle, but otherwise possibly too short. Strap material affects the angle of the toggle. Yellow straps from Harbor Freight are thinner and let the toggle sit perpendicular (good), but thicker polyester straps like those from Strapworks don't tighten down as well and sometimes hold the toggle at an angle so the loop can slip off one end of a short toggle. After that a little motion can put all the weight on the other end, and boom. My $.02

I invert the whoopies and have the deadeye at the tree. I feel this offers a more secure setup with a smaller toggle being that when you adjust the whoopie, nothing moves at the marlinspiked toggle.

I previously had an instance where I used the whoopie the traditional way - with the deadeye at the hammock. When you shorten or lengthen the whoopie, the amsteel moves along the webbing knot and can slide off slightly, then when weighted; boom!

When I was using toggles they were 2" ones! I had a piece of surgical tubing on the whoopie so when I put it on the marlin spike I slid the tubing up and it held the whoopie in place and wasn't able to slip off before I got in the hammock!

I like that idea. I will definitely be adopting it for my setup. Cheers!

I use a cheapie $.99 biner--about 3 inches. There's room to spare, so I would be comfortable using a 2 inch toggle. But even with the 3 inch biner, I use a sliding solomon bar to keep everything snug (I also check 2 or 3 times before going to sleep that the garage door is locked even though I know it is, and jump the last 3 feet into bed when I turn off the light so that the monsters can't get me--paranoia is a difficult thing to live with, but I perservere).

You're gonna need a bigger hammock

I use a 1" strap and just feel more comfortable with 1" extending out on each side. So . . . 3" overall. I use large aluminum knitting needles as material for the toggles.

My favorites are all about 3". More is just overkill, less and I would have to pay more attention to them.
