    100 Acre Wood Site Prep

Started prepping my hickory woods camp site for a Scout outing in March. Since It was a beautiful 65 degree day here in SE Georgia, I took time to enjoy the woods. A little sunshine hanging, a little trekking around the woods, and a little libation. The next 2 nights I'll be hanging out with the deer, raccoons, bobcats, foxes, and coyotes. Mid 60's and sunny with mid 30's at night - prime hang time

Yeah. We've used this site on our farm for about 8 years off and on. March is good for the boys - no bugs and usually no snakes And this gets to be the open-fire cooking camp out - none of that stove stuff. As well as all the other woods/bush craft things we can work in over 2 days and they can run free over a few hundred acres of woods and creeks. Dead tired by 9 pm Saturday night thankfully.

We had 10 flakes about 3 weeks ago. Mostly ice though. I've been working a while to keep the underbrush down on this site. The large hickory and oaks make it easy with all the summer shade.

Just got back from prepping my own campsite for a scout campout later this month, too. I suspect that prepping is more time consuming here in the NorthEast, but I had a blast just the same with all the white stuff this year! There is nothing like camping in the winter with scouts.

They'll be in a shelter they built, I'll be hanging and the other leaders are ground dwellers. I shovelled out their tent spot and made myself a wonderful snow ravine - it was 20 degrees this weekend but I was toasty. I expect the campout will be a blast, as will yours.
