    At my local outfitter. They had to order the second one special.

    I've had great success with it. I removed the foot box from hammock (no longer a Wbbb clone) and it works great. I have one at either end and it's awesome. The one at the head end really helps relieve my shoulder pain. And then the calf ridge has all but vanished at the footend. No more problems with my UQ sealing to the hammock either. Pricey but at $12 worth fabric I'm still under the cost of an eno of something similar not mention the comfort factor.

    You make me curious so I looked around. You can get steel for about $10 if you don't mind three times the weight. Or if you want aluminum most places have it for closer to $30 before shipping.

    They are $25 locally. If you wanted one,
    I would get it to ya for $30 or less depending on shipping.

    Thanks, but I'm not ready to drop that kind of cash on this issue yet. I need to try some cheap things first to see if it even makes a difference for me.

    Second pic shows the connection point: Basically, short Dogbone into a modified prusick type hitch (really I just wrapped it around until I got an even load).

    Petzel P-18 alloy D-ring: Approx 2oz each (with DB), $18 each (pricey I know) but one significantly reduced my calf ridge and shoulder squeeze. I'm hoping another will end it all together. But if not I'll use one on my summer rig as well. I really like the fact that this method doesn't add any more length to my hammock and the weight is comparable to the Biners I tried. Thoughts?
    Do you have a picture of these in use? Because that piece of hardware is climbing rated, and has a relatively small, relatively static load on it, I know it is probably safe enough for a MSB. When I was first taught climbing and rappelling many years ago, it was thoroughly drilled into me never to load a carabiner across the gate. I like that it keeps the suspension short, but I don't think I could sleep having loaded the d-ring in that direction, wondering if my instructor would haunt my dreams.

    HH is using a slightly different D ring:

    Still, rated for 10kn across the minor axis.

    Thanks for the links OG. That does confirm it's safe enough, like I expected. You know what they say about old habits being hard to break.

    Easton Nano Tent Stakes for spreader bars

    According to Easton, the 10-inch Nano Aluminum Tent Stakes weigh in at 0.62 Oz each.

    ...From Campmor's website...
    Easton Mountain Products Aluminum Nano Stakes are light and strong
    4 per pack
    Very light 7075 aluminum
    Weight = .62 oz.
    Length = 10"
    Made in the USA

    I suppose one could get the Red 10-inch version (they come in a 4-pack) and take the heads off of the other two to make a custom 7-inch to 9-inch spreader bar, cutting the tapered end off to adjust for your preferred length.

    My guess is that they could come in at just under 1-Oz for each.

    One of the complaints of the backpacking light crowd is that the heads come off with pounding the stakes into the ground. One should be able to pull off the heads with a pair of pliers and epoxy them once a length is settled on.

    Cutting the tapered end off two of the 10-inch stake and re-capping both with the 3rd and 4th donor caps with some epoxy might be a good way to get a light weight spreader bar with eyelets at each end for the Amsteel 7/64" set-ups.

    Here is an image to envision.

    Lightweight, simple to make, and Campmor sells them for about $11.00 for a 4-pack.

    Diameter might be an issue for some.

    My effort so far:

    I'm working on a full-time hammock, so weight isn't an issue. U-bolts from Home Depot with wing-nuts for easy removal (for laundering). 6" red oak 1x1's for the bars. I can detect no center ridge at all with this set up. Wonderfully flat...Mighty Mouse is a happy camper!
