Western NC Hangers

I am new to the forum and appreciate all the welcomes. I have already asked a lot of questions but have refrained from one:

Are there any hangs planned in the need furture for this area? (I live in Charlotte).

The reason I ask is that I have yet to buy a hammock and would really like to try one. I would like to go with a group as I have not hiked, but twice in NC and do not feel comfortable with any place to take a solo trip yet. Thank you in advance for your response.

Some side notes: I am a taller guy (6'7") but I only wiegh 215lbs. I am moving into a new house this week and with the honey do's it might be some time before I get free time. Just thought I would start this conversation earlier rather than wait on the time to come to me.

Does anyone have one that is an easy/safe hike in and out? I would like to go somewhere on a Saturday morning hike in and camp. Then turn around Sunday and hike out. Anywhere within about 2-2.5 hrs of Charlotte will work. I like in South Charlotte off Rea Rd just inside the Union County line (cheaper taxes!). Thanks in advance for any advice/help/guidance.

Hey BigA I live in the area just west Gaston Co. and was think about posting a hike sometime in the near future. I was looking at the 16 mile loop around Kings Mtn. NP and SP or Crowders Mtn. SP for a night. There are getting to be a good number of HF members in this area hopefully we'll get together sometime.

I have several hammocks and tarps to let you try out.

Jones Gap State Park would fit the bill. You can get a site close enough to the parking to carry some real gear or you could backpack up to 5 miles in, $16 a night.

The Chatooga River Trail would be another good one. It's a little farther for you but it's free. Again, you can hike 10 minutes or two hours.

Kings Mountain State Park is in your back yard. I backpacked in there several years ago. I assume you still can.

That would be awesome! Thanks for the invite in the future. Please keep in the loop. I work in Gaston County so it would be an easy trip to Kings Mountain after work on a Friday. I see you have a WBBB. This is the one that I have been thinking about buying. However, I want to try any that I can. Thanks again and let me know when you are thinking of going!

Thanks for the info. I have done the Chattooga with a friend and it is a great hike. I will have to check out Jones Gap SP. Thank you and everyone for all your help. Keep the comments coming!

I will definitely let you know, I was going to get out this weekend but it looks like my son is coming home from college for the weekend.

Just let me know and we could go to a local park after work and setup the gear. I have WBBB 1.7dbl, a 1.1 WB Traveler, and a HH Explorer Deluxe. A couple of UQs, a TQ, and a couple Spinn tarps.
