    Moving to Albany, NY

I go to law school down in Florida, but I will be moving down to Albany for 3 months in the summer to take an internship with GE.

Hiking kind of sucks in Florida, so I am excited to be around some different nature up in NY. I'd like to do some weekend hikes if anyone is interested or if there is a group that does that sort of thing in upstate NY.

I've also never been to Canada, so I was thinking of doing a backpacking and hanging trip in Canada over a long weekend.

    Thoughts? Comments?

No need to go to Canada - the Adirondacks offer some of the best hiking and camping in the northeast.

You will be a couple hours from the high peaks in the adirondacks and a lot of other great places all throughout the adirondacks just north of Albany. The adirondacks is one of my favorite places bar none. You will have no problem finding any number of great places to hike and hang.

Sweet. Adirondacks it is then. Any groups do hikes? I'm not big on backpacking alone for safety reasons. Itd be great to hook up with some people for a few weekends.

Google the northville placid trail. Great hike and lots of water.

AMC www.amc-ny.org does a lot of organized hiking and backpack trips. Also you can check out the adirondack mountain club www.adk.org

Check with the local ADK chapter - the last I knew they would take non members though their might be some benefits for joining. Probably not if you are only going to be there for a short time. OTOH it won't hurt your networking. ;-)

    http://www.adk-albany.org/ check the outing schedule.

Nothermark gives good advice. ADK was a good group 50 years ago - probably still is.

let me know when you get up here and are ready to "hang out" in the adirondacks. I am in the adirondack woods every other weekend, and sometimes for longer stretches. Happy to show you some of my haunts. PM me.

It would be great to get a hang together in the ADK. Welcome to NY.
