    Question Spectra source???

I just bought the $16 hammock that was on sale on hammocks.com to use as my car camping, winter and/or experimental hammock. It does not come with any type of suspension system other than two 3-4' pieces of cord that run through a sleeve at each end of the hammock body.

I figure I'll just remove the cord, whip the ends with a zip-tie and then use JJ's "Ring Buckle Supports" for the rest of the suspension. While his links to the rings, 'biners and webbing are all dead, it is easy to find other options online (or locally). However, bpl no longer carries Air Core Plus. I have some 250# cord I can use for a ridge line (if I decide to use one), but I don't have 1000# line for the short cords that connect the hammock body to the rings.

Any ideas where I can find some 1000# strength cord? Is there some place local that might carry spectra cord?

    Thanks.

A sailing shop is the best source, if you have one near you. Otherwise, it can be ordered from APS. Their Spyderline is particularly popular (sheathed double braid).

If it helps I use the 7/64 armsteel spectra. I think from APS. If I remember right I was quoted a strength of 1300 to 1600 lbs.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Is this the same stuff? I assume the units are in feet, so it is $0.31 per foot.

    also yes.

I just took possession of a length of the 1/8" version at
    Defender.com, at $0.37/ft. The 7/64" stuff sells for $0.27/ft.

yup. No issues on this end. I broke my speer webbing and this stuff is stuff going strong. Some of that is due to the angles.

Does anyone have experience with the Yale Ultrex?

There is some on the Sale page that would be a little cheaper than the Spyderline.

They seem to have a $25 min order. Guess I could get enough for a family of hammocks.

I wish they carried something else I might need (webbing, 'biners, rings).

I didn't realize how cheap it was from defender marine. 65 Feet at that price would put you just over $25, and that would be enough for a couple of hammocks with ridge lines. Around $32 with shipping... I might just do that.
