    Hanging Scouter's

Hey my fellow Forum Folk I have noticed a few fellow Scouter's out there and would like to see how far and wide Hammock Camping has spread in the Scouting Community. Tom Hennesey has done great things to promote Hammock Camping to Scouts. So post a reply if you would like stating where your Scouting and how many Hangers are in Your Troop. I'll go first: Troop 6 Glens Falls NY and our Troop boast 18 hangers out of 24 members.

Tom also had a booth at the National OA conferance in 2006 and 2009. Here is a shameless attempt to get a discount on a display model HH Explorer Deluxe at NOAC 2009. This is my buddy Ian from Troop 63 and myself.

Its rather interesting how my view on HH has changed slightly since this video was made (before I ever slept in a Hennessy Hammock).
Realization #1 Bottom insulation is needed except on the hottest summer nights.
Realization #2 Three pounds is rather heavy for a camping hammock when compared to other options.
Realization #3 Hennessy's suspension system has nothing on whoopies

    Greetings from Central NC.
    Just started hanging last Fall.
One other Scouter in our Pack is a hanger.
My son can't decide if he is or isn't... so I'll say that we have 2.5 hangers out of about 100 boys and Dads.

I'll be in my introducing the Pack to my DIY hammock system this weekend at our Cub family camp out.
I think I'll take my backpacking setup, which is a 1.1 SL with bug net, IX UQ, IX TQ, 1.1 Ogee tarp (if I finish it in time, if not I'll take my 1.9 Ogee tarp). May even carry it all in the DIY G4 pack I made last fall.
My son will use my non-back packing setup of a WBBB clone with a 1.9 HH Hex clone and a PE UQ, with his mummy bag as a TQ (the only non-DIY item in the bunch)... unless it is warm enough for him to use his fleece TQ that I made.

Too bad the GSS prohibits me cooking on my DIY supercat stove. Still hoping that the DIY bushbuddy that Smalls made for me will arrive in time for the trip.
I'll use my Heinie pot regardless.

So, as you may have noticed, I'm trying to introduce them to:
-hanging as an alternative to tenting
    -making your own gear
-lightening the load (not quite ultralight, but moving that direction)

Troop 1518 in Springfield VA. At one point, we had 8 or 9 hangers but most of them are 18 or older now. Now we have 2 or 3.

I had to sand all the paint off my Hiene Can so as to comply wit the G2SS. I also refrain from cooking while suspended but Santa bought me a Hammock Chair from Arrowhead (thank you Paul) that I will now be using.

Troop 69 out of Apple Creek, Ohio.
About 1/3 of our Scouts enjoy hanging.

One young boy, whom I built a hammock for last fall, used his for the first time ever on a night that went down into the mid 30's. He's now a happy young fella.

Troop 679 Bozeman, MT. The previous Scoutmaster got me hooked and we have one other adult who is on the verge of trying hammocking.

The scouts haven't shown any interest yet. I just checked the scout oath and law...comfortable is not on the list, so they are OK.
