    Northern NY Hangout!

A mixed group of hammock and tent campers just spent an AWESOME weekend in the Adirondacks...

We had a great trip, with a big crew showing up to brave the cold and snow, and Festus and I snowshoed across the pond to hang one night on an island...we got 10+ inches of new snow overnight!

My hanging setup for the night...it was a blast!

Another great trip in the books.

Here's my camp for the first night.

We saw a low temp of around 0F. I was using my DD hammock (upside-down), with a DD Underblanket, tiny HH tarp, Molly Mac IX sock, and an EMS Boreal 0-bag (synthetic). I was comfortable as can be right down to zero and felt like I had room to go colder... I credit the sock for making what would otherwise have been a so-so night, very comfortable.

On the second day, several of us snow-shoed our way out on Polliwog Pond to an island which is another designated campsite. NFA and I brought our hammock rigs and we set up a remote camp there where we'd spend the second night.

We were back at the main camp with the others when the snow started falling, and falling HARD. After some hemming and hawing we decided to trudge back over to the island and go ahead with our remote camp. There wasn't much visibility but our old tracks were still visible so we got there in good time.

This picture gives some idea how much snow we got, I think it was around 10" plus or minus-

This wasn't the coldest hang I've done by far, but it WAS the most snowfall I've had. It was awesome We were hanging in the vicinity of a lot of BIG evergreen trees... it seemed that the branches would load up until they reached some kind of "critical mass" and then snow-bomb us. Try to sleep through THAT... but overall I got two fantastic night's sleep.

Besides NFA and me we had another hammock-hanger on this trip, SirSharpe was here... unfortunately you can't see it but under the tarp in the center of this pic is his Clark hammock.

<ETA> Our buddy Bryce got a good pic of us on the island.

and making our way across the pond...

I own a DD tarp (approx 10'x10') and I know NFA has an HH hex tarp. When used with the sock, they just aren't needed imo. Maybe in the rain, but in the snow... nah.
