My wife just doesn't get it

Last Thursday I was feeling the need to do something about my Turtle Lady Stand and the fact that I couldn't use my hammock in the basement. We'll just call it a design flaw on my part and leave it at that. I had been toying with the idea of hanging a hammock from the floor/ceiling joists in the cellar and wend and bought the hardware a couple of weeks ago. I went overboard with the load limits, everything is rated at a 1/2 ton load limit but hey for less than $6.00 in hardware I'm not complaining. So after some drilling and fiddling with hardware, I hung my Second DIY hammock on Thursday night and gave it a test, heck even my 40lb Aussie jumped in for the test hang. Well my wife made one of her rare excursions into the cellar, saw the hammock hanging from the rafters, looked at me shook her head and walked back upstairs

At least it was only the headshake!

I can feel the pain. My wife is not much for running around outdoors and I have yet to convert her to even laying in a hammock. I have my work cut out for me!

Ha! I know the feeling. I did the same thing. Now my wife has to duck under the suspension everytime she goes to do the laundry!

Some husbands don't get it either. I'm trying to get my husband to fix it so I can hang a hammock in my gear room. The interior walls are not completed yet, so it is the prime time to reinforce and add more wall supports where needed. He kind of just rolls his eyes when I bring it up.

Eventually it will get done, as wives have that way of making your lives miserable until we get our way.

Lilprincess started as usual with anything that I do with a head shake. Over time as I was laying in my hammock she would come and visit me. I would slowly pull her closer until the time that I pulled her in with me. While not comfortable it introduced her to it. Then I moved to having her lay in it by herself. Her biggest fear was that of the spreader bar hammocks that a lot of people use in their back yard that are extremely tipsy she didn't want to be tipped over or go over herself. Just be patient with her and she may end up being like Lilprincess and want her own DIY and go camping with you.

I thought that giving her a hammock for Christmas might help. First I got a "What am I supposed to do with this?" after my son looked at her an simply stated "Sleep in it". I then got a "Get a Hammock Stand for the yard and I'll try it". Not trusting my workmanship, she insists on me buying he commercial hammock stand. I think the collapse of the my Turtle Lady Stand and the panicked dash by the dogs after my subsequent use of some well chosen words has her thinking twice about my ingenuity. Now I just need to get a hammock stand to fit her DIY Tablecloth Hammock.

I hope you guys don't give up, if you really want your wives to join you. It took me 8 years to figure out that "You can go if you want to" was Manspeak for "I'd really enjoy it if you'd come with me." After 22 years of Navy life, I thought he preferred being on his own...and I was wrong. He really enjoys it that we share this now. And I'm really sorry I tried to save him money (so he only had to buy gear for him, y'understand) by not getting involved sooner. I ain't giving it up for nuthin' now!
