I have a great bag from Ron at Mountain Laurel Designs. When I purchased a poncho from him, he also sent along a stake bag - he used a ripstop with spectra threads on the bottom of the stuff sack. Really, really tough material. It's the Dyneema X material he shows here.
For TI nail and shepherds hook stakes I also use some 1" tubular webbing and push the stakes into the webbing then the MLD stuff sack. I heat sealed the webbing on one end.
Made a mini-mini stake sac out of some left over silnylon. Recycled a small piece of a leather chamois cloth to reduce the chance of the stake tips puncturing the bag. Wish I would have thought of Dutch's concept. Sewing the lock chord channel on a small diameter sac was interesting.Originally Posted by Dutch

Don't sew a channel in a case like that. Get a big honkin' hand sewing upholstery needle and use something like embroidery floss for the cord. Do a running stitch in and out of the fabric and use that to snug up the mini sack. Tie a slipped knot to keep it tight, or use a cord lock that is small enuf to function on something like floss.

Personally I just throw mine in the bottom of my pack ><. I use MSR GroundHogs so I'm not worried about them puncturing anything though.
I wrap the rope aorund the stakes and slide them in the storage bag with my tarp or hammock. I keep the figure 9's attached to the tarp and when I fold it up they are at the top of the bag with the ridge lines or strap.
i have an old stake bag that came with a tent. it is nice and thick nylon with some heavy duty laminate.
i store my tarp in a stuff stack that is slightly too big, so i can easily fit the stake bag in there with it.
i hate having my stakes somewhere other than my tarp bag.
Another idea is to not carry tent stakes, just use sticks from the campsite every night. I developed this idea after forgetting my tent stakes on a trip a couple years ago, plus I've always lost as least one on almost every trip since I started using tarps. Has saved me a few oz's and now I don't have to worry about what they'll do to my other gear when packed away.
I got in the habit of doing that in Florida. The ground was nice and soft; never had too many problems. However, they don't call em the Rocky Mountains for nothing. I have a hard enough time getting my groundhogs into the ground sometimes out here.

30 year-old PU coated nylon stake bag from a eureka timberline - stakes in there half in one direction and half in the other (in hopes that the curved ends will trump the pointy ends) and the bag folded over and rolled up. Stuck in whatever pocket/area my tarp is in. If I'm feeling paranoid about punctures, I drop the whole stake bundle in a second, identical, stake bag and roll/fold that one up also.
Hey, doesn't everyone have a collection of PU nylon bags with various scout troop numbers written on them in highly indelible marker?
