Now the question is goint to be when will their be a mod where you can completly take off the bug netting being able to leave it at home if you want to. Or do you guys already have that and I just dont know about it. It was great meeting ya this weekend Tim. As soon as I can part with my Tarp ill be droping it in the mail for the pole mod
I've always wanted to be able to remove the netting in order to zip on a DWR top cover. I mentioned at Mahha I had a manufacturer on the line who would make me a separating zipper, in small quantities no less.

Here's the fly in the ointment however, I'm pretty set on using a coil zipper, not a tooth zipper. As it turns out, the coil zipper will work for a completely removable bugnet, but the zipper part attached to the hammock may not line up with the top covers zipper. Tooth zippers would work evidently, but the guy was pretty adamant that coil zippers would not work. So, I've got to consider whether a tooth zipper will satisfy me or not....that is if I want to achieve my goal completely. Just a removable net without the potential of zipping on a topcover doesn't interest me a whole lot. I personally like the idea of unzipping the net and stowing it with the hammock. Won't lose it, it's there if you need it, minimal weight, out of the way, etc.

I think that's the beauty of Mod 4 ... I know I've had my DIY Clone out and loving it only to find the breeze drop out and here come the gnats. Didn't expect any and it ends up ruining a perfectly good nap!

This way you can just reach down and whip out the net from it's bag and you're golden. You can go from no net to netted without getting out of the hammock I'm thinking!

The other big plus I'm thinking for me will be the ability to lolly gag out either the right ... or the left side of my hammock. As we all know lolly gagging is critical use of a good hammock

Did I mention I was excited?

Gotcha 2Q, so unless you can zip a DWR top cover to the hammock completly removing the netting dosent really add all that much advantage. That makes sense. hawk-eye you may have sold me on being able to lolly gag out for either side. Man so many times Ive set up my WBBB and said "man I wish I would of set it up on the other side to get in and out of". (I finallly did however mark the head and foot end with different color beads on my woopies but none the less it would be cool).
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I sent my HH back before this intro to have the mod ... mod'ed. I had the original zip on the right side and that was great but I found it easier to use the left side ... so now this is going to be perfect. Even better than I had really expected from the mod I originally asked for. I still might want to access the right side and this way I can ... or can go completely netless. I have a Grizz inspired over cover that I made out of 1.1 Marpat that ties onto the ridgeline ends and works great ...

Hmmm, now with mod 4, a top cover with zippers can be added,( if seperating zippers),, to zip in the same place of the bug net,,,, I am thinking, a vented cover, with extended drip "flaps" covering up the zipper,,,,, The vents would have a small piecse of bug net, and a velcro cover that can be opened from the inside,( kinda like small windows) .like on a TENT......seriously ,,, just thinking........

When mod 5 comes out I will send ya 3 Hennessy's
