Alas, sad to say but I'll probably still be up in Maine enjoying the nightly hangs at 50°-60° with humidity in the lower percentiles. Would you believe me if I said I will miss this one? I will miss seeing everyone and look forward to the fall.

Just saw this posting about 10 minutes ago, and I've summitted my request for time off on the 18th. If it is approved I'll be at the Pond about lunch time. I'm going to come in from Juniper Springs and hike out to Pat's Landing if someone will volunteer to shuttle me back to Juniper on Sunday.

    Thanks, Life Scout!

    Heya, folks.

Sorry for my recent unheralded absence. I am going to try and make this one, but it may not be in the cards for me. If I can get Saturday off, I'll bike down overnight after work on Friday (I no longer have a car, for a number of reasons that aren't really germane to hammocking, and don't have the spare cash to cover a rental until after August) and be there Saturday morning/noonish.

I'd be happy to sponsor/lead another hike to the springs this time on Saturday--yes, I really am that crazy, for the few of you who haven't met me--assuming that I can make it. I will know for sure about two weeks out from the hang.

Again, I'm sorry that I was gone for so long. I think I've got everything worked out on that end, and I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone as soon as I can.

I also want to say thank you to Life Scout for stepping up on this one when I wasn't able to. I appreciate it.

For those that want this nice hike to the springs, remember to bring a little cash for the entrance.

Yep, forgot to mention that. Thanks for the reminder, Floridahanger!

The entrance fee for Juniper Springs is $5.00 an head. If we decide to go that way, it's a 10-mile round trip across the heart of the prairie (bring at least a liter of water and some kind of sun protection for your head; I'm probably going to just hump an whole 3L Camelback out of habit). Awfully pretty, but also pretty hot.

The entrance fee for Silver Glen Springs is $5.50 an head. That way, it's an 8-mile round trip utilizing the Yearling Trail and heading through some of the more swampy areas of the FT in the prairie. Again, bring head cover and water.
