well i have an eno doublenest and i love it. It is super comfortable (especially since i added a ridgeline) and it packs small enough for my liking. I also have the guardian budnet that eno makes. the bugnet on the other hand i do not like so much. it is oversized, adds weight, too bulky, and is kind of a pain to set up. I was thinking about sewing netting onto my eno and adding a zipper to make it like the blackbird. anyone see any potential problems with this?

only that getting geometry of a bugnet just right so that it (a) does not rip out the first time you get in the hammock, nor (b) have big baggy loose panels flapping around, takes a bit of work. Would suggest you buy a cheap big bedsheet at WallyWorld, and use that an a whole bunch of pins to fit the sheet, as you like, mark it, and cut out for a pattern on the bugnet. (you can and will need to put the zipper on the hammock first, and pin to that, so you can open the hammock up and get in.

Strongly suggest you use 2 zipper pulls, otherwise the one pull ends up way way way up at the top and you need a stepladder inside the hammock to get to it when you want to close it completely, or open it. Probably that means then that you'll have to go the custom length coil zipper route.

FWIW I have put a lot of bugnets on a lot of hammocks....

since i already have this net I was trying to think of a way to use this one. since it encases the entire hammock do you think it would be possible to cut the bottom off and then sew the top part onto the hammock? I would still have that vertical zipper on one side but would rather install a horizontal one so I can unzip and fold the net over itself like the blackbird when not in use.

And that is a pretty sweet diy net design. I really liked the one ch@rlie made. But i would much prefer a fixed net rather than one that encases the entire hammock to save on bulk and weight.

I think you're on a good track to save on bulk and weight for the summer. In other seasons though you may not need that bugnet at all but will be schlepping it around anyway.

All this to say that I really like having my bugnet separate, but I understand your point as well.

+1, Oldgringo, this will be the one (or rather 3) I will make for my kids and me.

I also have the Eno bug net. It is heavy, but found that cutting off the stuff sack saved alot of weight.

i think i am just going to make a diy hammock with a fixed net. like a simple gathered end version of the blackbird. I think that might be easier than trying to mod the eno
