I just got some of this D12, it seems good quality.

Check out the English Braids dynamic line, the 2mm size is rated at 900kg b/s.

English braids own Marlow, and maybe your supplier could get this too.

    Yes, Marlow makes good stuff.

I don't know how it's possible for 2 mm of SK-75 to achieve that breaking load.

I suspect it's a typo; easy to mistake a 5 for a 9, and 500 kg scales in proportion to the other numbers; i.e., 2/3 diameter is about 1/2 strength (or, 1.5 times diameter is twice as strong).

    Thats what I thought.
I checked it on the Manufacturers website, and with other stockists, and it came back with 900kg, so its obviously not just a typo on the website.

I then went to my local sailmakers and asked them. They were adamant it is correct too, so I bought 20m of the stuff.

It doesn't look like the d12. The construction seems different. The filaments seem finer. I commented that this b/s is nearly equal to PBO in terms of strength/diameter and I was struggling to believe it wasn't a typo. I was strongly assured again.

Strange that the numbers for the other sizes do correspond with average values for SK-75. It's possible that the smallest size uses SK-90 but 900 kg seems too high even in that case.

    How much does it weigh?

I also noticed that the smallest size in the picture has a much tighter braid (which reduces tensile strength). Does yours have a tighter braid than D12?

The dynamic line is smooth to the touch, all the strands seem to tesselate, whereas the d12 seems to be basically cylindrical in strand section.
The dynamic line is much limper.

My kitchen scales say 4.6g/m for 2.5 mm d12 and 6 g/m for the 2mm dynamic.

It is also visibly smaller in section than the 2.5 mm.

According to the supplier, it is a favourite for standing rigging.

Yikes! I'd say that ain't HMPE because at 6 g/m it's about twice as heavy as it should be. Seems to have excellent strength:volume though.

The weight for D12 (about right for 7/64" or 2.8 mm) is significantly higher than the specified 3.7 g/m. Is it the new stuff (with solid colour; the old stuff is white with a coloured strand)?

It is the old d12 stuff.

Re: the weight, could it be they have slipped me some pbo, believing it was dyneema

It is coated aswell, which will add to the weight.

Their specifications strongly imply that the smallest size is a different material.

Why not call them and find out?

    I agree with you Albert.

I really can't see it being a typo, It's a pretty poor show if it is, but something is amiss. I will call tuesday (bank holiday on monday) to find out and will post again.
