This is six jackets after three days with the seam ripper

In the process of making uqs. Going with the traditional rectangle. Have to make two. For me and the wife.

They pack up pretty small. I have to finish them. Need to take a ride to the material supply store to get more uh ....uh .. material welding supplys...for my table mounted electrically driven thread injector...thingy.
Will keep yall posted on progress. Really stoked about this one.

Great work! Im going to use 1.5 coats to get me a 3/4 UQ and plan on trying to use the back panels only.

Looks like you ripped the panels down to just the back? No sides or pockets?
Thanks for the photos and comparisons.

Picked up 5 yesterday, ranging from 2XLT to 3XLT. Going to try to make a UQ for my son, as I already have a shell and 850fp down coming in for my own quilt.

I'm just gonna use mine as a jacket... I needed a warm, lightweight coat anyway. I was considering trying this, but I've never used an UQ before and I don't want my first experience with one to be one I hacked together. Kudos to you guys though, this is an awesome idea!

They work pretty good as just a jacket also! I may mod the cuffs on mine with some light velcro to make them a little tighter.

Picked up four 4XL all in black today - I foresee much bonding with my seem ripper in the near future Gonna make a nearly full length UQ out of one pair and hopefully a TQ out of the other. Lined up bottom to bottom they're about 8 inches too short for a TQ as-is so I'm hoping I can salvage enough material out of a couple pairs of sleeves to make an extension. If all works out I should have a set of summer weight quilts for $56 :shades

And yeah they do make nice coats too - been wearing my other one whenever it's above 25* and it's great.

I picked up a couple 4XL for a RidgeRunner UQ. Laying shoulder to shoulder on top of the hammock they seem an almost perfect fit for the hourglass shape. I'm thinking I may be able to cut the sides and leave the shoulder connected for a single layer summer UQ.

When you rip the seams do you need to sew it back up right away to contain the down? I started to try a couple of places hoping I could rip without sewing yet, but I don't think that is going to work...

I am going to open up the elastic on the cuffs and slide in a length of elastic cord...

Great work on the UQ... That's a great idea!

Looking at the sleeves, I wondered about making a down beanie (ie Black rock) so I put it over my head with the top part of the shoulder to the back and It fits quite well. Cut it off a little above the head. You could then cut a circular piece out of the rest of the sleeve to fill in the top. Maybe a strip of fleece on the inside around the rim to make a sweat band. Maybe worth a try when I get to it.

Just picked up 3 of these. I can't believe the price considering my wife just bought me one almost identical from SA for well over $100. I'm debating ripping them up for an UQ. Will have to see how it turns out for you guys doing this before I do...
