    Underquilt and Triangle Thingies

I just got a Blackbird and I'm wondering if I should get some triangle thingies for my underquilt or not.

For you more experienced Blackbird owners, what do you think? Are the triangle thingies needed, beneficial, or skip them altogether?

    Thanks!

I recently got my WBBB and Hammock Gear 40* Incubator. I slept very comfortably in this setup the past two nights at about 39* and 37* for a low.

At first I was worried about the area near my feet being covered, but I just pulled that cord tight closest to my right foot like Shug suggested in a video. This worked great, absolutely no need to any mods in my situation. It may depend on your height or lay position in the hammock.

I have tried the Phoenix, Incubator, and a NewRiver UQ with a WBBB and they all fit fine.
The incubator fit the best of all of them..

I used a Phoenix for quite a while on my WBBB and I tried the triangle thingies once...I felt that my UQ fit better without them on the WBBB. I can see where they would help a lot depending on your hammock and UQ combination, but they were not for my setup. YMMV.

Back when the triangle thingies were first being discussed, I realized why i didn't need them. the reason was I had been attaching the mitten hooks and shock cord from the UQ in such a fashion as to hang the UQ in the form the triangle thingies replicated.

I have tried them on my WBBB with my Jarbridge river. I have come to the conclusion that I like them on the foot end, but not the head end. The head end seems to stay put ok. I like them on the foot because it keeps the shock cord off my right foot. Without it, I feel like my foot is laying right on the cord. Just my .02.

I have been using dutch quilt hooks attached to the shock cord on both ends of the ix uq I use. Just hook the suspension cord together over the ridge line. I believe this setup gives me more adjustment than using triangle thingies. This definitely helps position the uq on my wbbb. That's interesting. I use Dutch's quilt hooks on my other hammocks and they work really well, but I didn't think they would work on the Blackbird.

    Great info.

    Thanks!

They worked just fine for me on my WBBB. I was using a Phoenix at the time. IMO, they are much more adjustable than the Trianle Thingies, all you have to do is slide the hook closer or further away from the end of your hammock where your UQ attaches. This changes the angle of your suspension from almost no change to a drastic change. They can really help to seal your UQ to your hammock if you are having issues with drafts. They might not work for everyone, but I use them and I like them. YMMV.
