Sewing on a curve

I recently made my first hammock from 1.9 ripstop nylon and want to make a cylindrical stuff sack for it from the trimmings. Any tips for how to sew the bottom circle to the sides?

Also, how does one estimate how big to make it?

One way I use to get an idea of how big a sack I need is to take a pillow case, put the item in it and squash the item down as small as you can. This will give you a rough idea of how big a stuff sack you will need. If you have an old case you can mark on it and then measure it after item is removed. Hope this helps.

If you want a round bottom sack vs a square (square ones are easier to make),first sew the body of the sack so that you have a cylinder. Now that you have your actual cylinder flatten it out on a table and measure across the opening. Divide that number by Pi (3.14159), This is the Radius of your cylinder, mark it on a piece of fabric, and also mark a second circle a half inch larger for seam allowance, cut on the outer circle. Measure down a half inch on your cylinder and pin the circle to the cylinder at the 4 cardinals and start sewing. Matching up you inner circle on the bottom with the 1/2 inch line on the cylinder. In a perfect world you'll end where you started.

I make my stuff sacks dirt simple. A rectangle sew a small channel along one long side for draw string. Fold in half so short side goes to short side and stitch together the short sides and the side opposite of the previously sewn channel. Doesn't get much easier than that.
