Gram Weenie Section

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but after my wonderful blown knee on the AT last year and a bad back I have turned to watching my packweight and a WONDERFUL hammock. Has anyone suggested on a Ultralight Gram Weenie section? I think a section like this would be very benificial. Just an idea and probably a revisited one

I'm always looking for ways to shave hammock weight.

Today, I learned that 1.5 inch polypro is lighter than 1" polyester - about 1/2. I've been using the polypro but got some polyester as a test. Nylon weighs about 50 percent more than the polypro. So far, I have a couple of hundred nights hanging from polypro. The only problem was when a tried 1" instead of 1.5. It didn't fail, but it was getting ready to. My two 12 foot lines in 1.5 polypro weigh 5 ounces together. No hardware, no tree huggers, just the simple lines.

I think it should combine both UL hammock,UL homemade gear, and UL ideas. It would be nice to not have to goto other sites and have UL info here. I consider this and BPL as my home. I am letting my paid membership expire on WB (it's changed and not for the better ) and will put that money to HF.

That's always the hot issue here. Trying to keep it hammock oriented. That seems to be what sets it appart from other sites. No real answer on that.

Thanks for the compliment. Can't say I am a serious ultralighter. Like Jeff I always seem to add stuff to bring weight back. On my last real multiday trip in the smokies my 2 hiking partners and I had a radio, speaker, 2 bottles of liquer, travel connect 4, hardback book, 3L wine, small juice box of wine, a full squeeze thing of choclate sirrup, smoke bombs, tikki torches, and tons of food. I think we only managed 30 miles in 4 days with a 9pm start one day and a rainy day zero another.

my 3 season base pack weighs 5 lbs or less.
If the admin and such dont feel this is the place for gear lists, homemade gear info, or UL philosophy, thats fine. But if the "gram weenie" section is implemented, it will be used. Like Gageteer said, I too would rather glean my UL info and how it fits into hammocking from this great site than have to travel elsewhere. So my vote is "yes" if that matters

I was on a trip where we had about 6 tiki torches. The site was about three miles in from the road. One guy schlepped in a gallon of tiki fuel. We had people from all over the surrounding sites coming over to the crew that brought in the torches. The fact that about 6 of us were wearing kilts didn't lower the "weird" factor either.
