Best Book of Knots? (including splicing)

I'm hoping for advice from you expert hangers in finding the best book of knots. I'm a "visual learner" even when I read, and for something such as knots, I put illustrations as top priority.

I like cordage and rope usually 5mm and smaller. Things like 7/64" Amsteel, Paracord, Dynaglide, and various other 1/5mm - 3mm varieties. I like to use this stuff for structural purposes, such as bearing human weight, as well as decorative purposes, such as bracelets and lanyards.

Also utility purpose, like clotheslines, zipper pulls, anything I can think of. I'm looking for THE book for knot reference to carry in my knapsack for easy reference.

I would prefer contrasting colors of rope, for visual clarity, and as many pictures as possible, for all the steps of each knot. I don't need large images, as long as they're clear. Maybe even throw in some arrows for directional movement markings. I would prefer color images, over greyscale.

This book would need to have all the essentials, such as the taut line hitch, trucker's hitch, bowline, prusik, and square knots. Then all the decorative standards, like diamond lanyard knot, cobra or solomon bar, round and square sinnets, etc. Thirdly, all the splicing knots, for hollow braided ropes, such as whoopie slings, nacrabiners, etc.

If this book doesn't exist, what combination of books will constitute enough knowledge to write said book? Thanks.

Animated Knots has been my go to.

Granted it's not a physical book, but has taut (pun intended) me quite a bit about knots and is a good quick reference.

Well I give a +1 to animated knots, they even have an app so its easy to take along.
For a physical book (though it meets almost none of your criteria) the Ashley Book of Knots is THE book of knots, I don't think you'll find a more complete book, its just not terribly easy to follow, but it will teach you how to make knots.
    Good luck,

+1 for Animated knots. Great website.
On youtube, Tying it all together's page is pretty good too, and, of course, Opie's page for splicing.

I'm another pro Animated Knots guy. When ever I refer someone to a particular knot, I reference the link to Animated Knots. They do have a apps for the popular smartphones too.

But when it comes to a paper book, I a really like Knots, Splices and Fancy Work by Chas L. Spencer. My copy is a hand me down from my father but you can occasionally find it online at some of the used book places. It's a good one.

The popularity of Animated Knots surely demonstrates and should instruct that editing and selection are everything: 10 stills over 5-10 minutes of Youtube video.

How to do it can matter less than whether you should:

Definitely a beginner book (perfect for kids), but the Klutz Book of Knots is awesome. It has 24 different knots, splices hitches etc like the bowline, half hitches, tautline hitches, trucker's hitch, figure eight, double figure eight, figure eight on a bite, sheet bend.

The cool thing about it is that the pages are thick...hardboard? type material with holes in it so you can actually practice the knot right on/in the book. It even comes with 5' of 550 cord in two colors (mine came with red and blue).

Worth checking out, again best for novices/kids.

The best book of knots, hands down, is Ashley's.

The OP asked what was the best book of knots.

    Isn't Ashley's available online?

It is available in paper. I am not aware that the entire thing is available as an ebook. It ain't free. Sections of it are available for viewing online, not the entire 600 plus pages.
