So I've decided to move to a CCF pad from my Thermarest. I'm having a difficult time choosing the right thickness though. I don't want to double up because I can't bring that much pad. I need something good to 32 and I'm a cold sleeper. Any advice?

I get by with a 1/4" pad down to 32º, but I'm not a particularly cold sleeper. Perhaps a 3/8" pad would be best for you.

You don't seem to be bound by the same laws of convection that the rest of us are, though. While a 1/4" pad + clothing will get me to 32º, it won't get me much lower.
I tend to use an underquilt at lower temps, though, so I can't speak to 'pad only' use below freezing.

Neo, refresh my memory: Did you fold that 3/8" double for that single digit night, or did you use it full length laying on just a single layer?3/8 pad has taken me to the single digits,no problem.
Pfft... he just had it laying nearby in case he did decide he wanted to use it.
I think the type of pad will also matter. I highly recommend the Gossamer Gear 1/4" pads over the blue Walmart CCF pads. The GG and the WM pad can get me down to about the same temp but the GG pad is lighter and more packable than the WM pad.

Ditto the recommendation for the GG ccf pad.
I just went to their site. It said: THE 1/4 REGULAR WIDTH PADS HAVE BEEN DISCONTINUED. They do have the wide pads though in 1/4.

The wider pads are nicer for hammock use anyway, but it's certainly easy to cut them with scissors to whatever size/shape you need.
Is there a difference between the GG pads and the Speer pads? I've been using the pads from Speer, and I quite like them. No idea how they compare to GG, though.
