Boy would I like to do some of the SHT. Someday maybe.

I would really like to see Devils Kettle falls.
How well is the trail marked? I know from watching Fronkey's videos that there are some spur trails. Wouldn't want my wife to get lost on the trail.
Devil's Kettle is pretty cool. It's right in Judge CR Magney State Park. It's got a lot of steep stairs to climb especially on the way back to the parking lot but it's worth it.
As far as how well the SHT is marked, it's marked very good. There are so many signs and blue blazes that it's virtually impossible to lose the trail unless there has been a recent storm with lots of downed trees and/or flooding. The only time I ever got lost was a couple years ago when there was flooding in between Magney and the Lake Walk. The trail was washed out for a pretty large area and I just couldn't find it. Ended up bushwhacking my way through thick brush and swamp to get back to the road. I didn't have my GPS with on that hike. If I had it I would have been fine.
Make sure you keep up with trail conditions this spring. We've had A LOT of snow in this part of the state this year and if we get a lot of rain later this spring or a quick warm up, there's going to be flooding. I've got 30 inches still on the ground at my house and 6-10 more on the way over the next few days. It's not much different up the shore as far as I know.
Check out the trail website and sign up for the email list. It's the best way to keep up and to find info.
If your lucky enough to be outdoors, your lucky enough!
Good advice)))) I went and found a trip report on the SHT in May of '08 (pre-video days) and it was a challenge with snow still on trail and clod winds and a lot of water.

Whooooo Buddy)))) All Secure in Sector Seven
The ticks will be thick this spring since it's gonna be wet.
And we've had a lot more snow this year (especially late snow) than we had in '08.
Yep, they'll be out with a vengeance, I'm afraid.
We're pretty concerned up here with what's coming once it starts to warm up. There is still some damage from last summer's flooding and there's concern about what another shot of too much water could cause.

you're right on about the snow, here (about an hour and a half north of Grand Marais) we're expecting about 25cm (9-10 inches) overnight tonight. Where is spring??
