I plan on using a layer of insultex to augment the uq. I still view this as a summer weight device...

Does anyone have the weight with and without sleeves (I know there are different sizes, but it should give us an idea.)

Also does anyone have a length from shoulder to waist. (again I know there are different sizes). I am just wondering how many jackets for a 1/2, 3/4 and full.

    Thanks
These are measurements for my 4XL.

Total jacket 13.2 oz, sleeves only, 3.2 oz (10 oz w/o sleeves).

5ft laid open after opening the sides, 30 in. shoulder to waist.

Thanks linux. You could almost use one 30" x 50" long but that is a little narrow.
50" is pretty wide, but you definitely need two for the length.

    Plus 1

Definitely would not use this under 40, 50 seems like my comfort zone with this one.

I have a insultex quilt and it does not really compress. It is thin enough that it folds and rolls pretty small.

Playing around with the jackets I bought you can zip two together to make a double layer uq or what might work with 4 jackets as a 2/3 peapod kind of thing.

Progress so far: four jacket disassembled down to each individual panel and main zipper removed. (I left the pocket, you never know.) i made my base using the back panel and two front panels.

I then folded the top irregular edge over and sewed it down to square off the side. This will be to allow for adding a draw cord. Same for the other end. I tried to cut it to be even by sewing two lines and cutting between. Too messy
I finished off the sides by reusing the elastic bottom from the jacket. I still need to add the shock cord draw strings and the suspension. Plus I have two more jackets to take apart. The final size for these are 56"x44" I used two 3XL jackets.

I am going to take the sleeves and sew them off square to use as foot warmers. Since there are four I can even double the up if need be.

I will put the remaining pieces in one bag to use as a pillow.

Final thoughts. I'm excited to have these for me and my boys. Ripping that many seems is tedious and time consuming and MESSY (my wife does not like this part.) also sewing already down-filled panels is quite tricky. Not my best sewing effort. Glad these are just for me

Looks really cool with the checkered pattern. Looking forward to seeing it on hammock and how it fits.

I'm kinda stuck on the idea that I want to make an underquilt, but I saw one of the guys at the NJ Winter Hang had 3 of the jackets on because it was bone chilling cold last night and he seemed comfortable. Since I only bought 2 jackets in 2xl I think I am going to keep the sleeves on and configure a way to separate the two jackets if I want to wear the jacket or re connect them if I need an underquilt. I need to do some research and see what would work better. A zipper or Velcro.
