I don't check in here much any more but there is a nice stealth site Ive used many times near mile marker 8.
I usually just stay on the southside hiking but haven't done the 'new' section that completed the loop. Looks like y'all had a good time. The lake is quite low based on the crockett garden picture.

Wow, sounds like you guys had a memorable trip! I'm keeping the gear packed from the Sam Houston forest trip, and looking at some gear lightening mods.
I was watching the preparation for this trip with jealous interest...hearing echoes of the familiar call of "cooookieeeecooooon".
We should meet up again soon, I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures and trip report!
BTW, nobody can keep up with gimpy.
