    Byer hammock stand?

    http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...Id=17498893493

Does anybody have any experience with this stand? I was thinking of making a stand, but i might be better off just spending the $99 and getting this one for now (I am in an apartment so a huge wooden stand would be a pain anyway...)

It looks like a decent stand for $99. Any input would be appreciated as I am in need of a stand bad and will be making my decision in the next couple of days.

    Thanks!

That's shown itself to be a popular prefab stand, from others' posts...and it's one of the few that I know of that's 12' long. Byer also sells an extender for the bottom rail that'll allow 14' - nice if you want to take it car camping somewhere with no trees, but still need to be able to pitch your tarp. That's actually the one I'll be getting at some point, I think.

You can get (what looks like) the same stand WITH a hammock for $79.95 at Sierra Trading Post. Check it out:

That looks like the one I have, I like it. The one I have adjusts on the bottom piece too. It is heavy at 50 lbs, but comes apart pretty easily and will fit in the trunk of my car.

That one does not adjust and may be hard to put indoors or transport.

I will get the Byers stand when I'm able. The only other that comes close that I have considered is this one.

Just Jeff uses the Byers Vario Stand. He said to use a tarp you tie it on one end. On the other end tie a gallon milk jug full of water to the tarp cord and let it had down. That will keep the tarp taught.

Did you happen to catch the hammock rocking kit accessory also on that page for 18.46? (plus 4.00 shipping!) lol.

Haha, that hammock rocker is amazing, but what is the best is the terrified look the girl has in the hammock.

Well, it sounds like the vario is a good stand and I will try to find one locally. I have called around to a few places and nobody has one in stock. I just hate to spend $50 on shipping for one online. You would think there would be plenty of them around since I live in NH (I also called a few places in maine that are apparently Byer dealers and they don't have any either!).

    Thanks for the info,
    JR

I've been calling around, as well. It seems that most of these places just have them drop shipped. It's the shipping that drives the price up. Most places sell the stand for $99.00, but then there is the $39-$-59 shipping charge.
