Minor missed ID on a sewing machine is no big deal. The green Elna Supermatics are often called 'Grasshoppers' online, when that nickname apparently refers only to the earlier 1st generation (more angular) Elna straight stitch machine.
You were trying to be helpful - nothing wrong with that! I make those kind of mistakes pretty often (Singer doesn't need cam for ZZ, etc. etc. ) and generally get (gently) corrected fairly promptly.
People here at HF are pretty civil - don't worry about small mistakes!

I'd say yay. Getting to try it out is priceless. At least you'll know if you like it before you buy it. You can avoid shipping too. If you don't like it, you're only out for a little gas and the time.
My two cents worth:
Don't be put off by the knee control (vs foot pedal) - it took me about 10 min of sewing to get used to it.
Be careful when putting the machine back in the case, as the way the case connects/latches wasn't obvious to me (or the seller of one machine) at first, and it's possible to bend the connecting tabs. Once you figure it out, the case closes and latches cleanly.
If you are buying the machine, and have any problem getting it back in the case, I'd recommend just carrying them to your car separately- the machine is heavy (30 lbs with case) and you don't want it spilling out of the case on the driveway!
It's hard to lose on a Supermatic for $50 - that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! (going to look at 'mine' this evening..)
I learned on a knee control when I was about 5. Easy peasy. For a long time I liked them better. I still think you can get better speed control with the longer knee sweep distance.

I retracted my offer. Something just didnt seem right and through a completed listing search on Ebay I found machines in better condition going for less.
I did find this, though..

21 mins left and its only at $23. Might be worth a shot? I wouldn't be out much it something happened along the way.
