SOLD- stretch-leashes

Made a few of these for a "gear swap" that a local outfitters has every fall and spring. I was just "advertising" these as dog leashes, but the guy next to me said they could be used for paddle-leashes as well. We then joked about their use as "kid-leashes" . If you can't tell from the pics, think reverse STL-- the stretchy part is on the inside. You just attach leash-to-collar via carabiner

I still have two of these left and thought some people with new dogs might could use these... or some old dogs .

One stretches 8' from the end of the hand-strap to end-boxstitch
The other stretches ~7' from hand-strap to end-boxstitch

I think acercanto did something SIMILAR to that by splicing some shock cord with his guylines. Make sure to post about it! Just remember... pictures or it didn't happen !

Speculation here, but if I were to get some HEAVY DUTY elastic band (think suspenders), would there be any good bit of interest in people buying these? I think I would switch to the band just because shock cord is so stinkin' difficult to sew . I literally broke 2 needles and bent a third sewing these! But I really like them, and I think using elastic bands would be just AS, if not more, effective.

Input... advise.... please!

Very cool - I use something extremely similar for my dogs. My version has one of those stretchy coils inside - think the kind of keychain that goes around your wrist, but a much longer piece, buried inside of a webbing leash.


The nice thing about the keychain material is that it stretches much farther and much easier than shock cord. My leashes stretch from just over 3 feet, to 8 feet in length, so they are great for running with the dog, or walking with multiple dogs, and keeping the slack in the leashes from getting tangled up. They also stretch with very little force, so the dogs can walk all the way out to the end of the stretch of the leash, without choking themselves.


If you can find a source of that stretchy coil material, that would absolutely be the way to make these things. It's an ingenious solution.

yeah, I thought about that when thinking of other materials to use for stretchi...ness, but I can't figure out how to attach it to the webbing. I THINK sewing is out for this, but if I can find another method, this would be a GREAT idea. Well, it still IS a great idea, just not a readily doable idea
