    Length of guy lines?

This may seem like a silly question but how long do you typically make your tarp guylines? I just bought a roll of zing it and want to make some up for my tarps, and food hanging bag. Also, don't you love it when you've ordered so much stuff that you don't know what to expect in the mail when you get home! I got some zing it today and my mesh snakeskins I ordered from Wilderness Logics. I'm just waiting on my two mamajamba tarps from Warbonnet and two 40° incubators from Hammockgear and I'll be heading out!

I think most folk use around 6ft, myself included.

    4 foot and 10ft.
I usually set the tarp up with so that the 10 ft lengths are on the side of the tarp that I plan to open in porch mode. They give more options to tie out the tarp with. The 4 footers go on the low side. I do have to pay attention when setting up the tarp, but the guy lines are only larksheaded on the the d-rings so I can move them around if needed.

I use a 10' guyline on the head-end, opening-side, tarp corner; I can prop that corner up with a stick (porch mode'ish). And use 6' guylines on the other three corners of the tarp.

To attach to the tarp's corners, I use 2' of line and make it into a loop using a double fisherman's knot. . .use a prusik knot to attach each guyline to a the loop, and larkshead the loop to a corner of the tarp.

This gives me an adjustable line on each corner without needing any hardware.

    yup. basically like this.

my tarp is an OES MacCat Standard (hex, ish. 6 corners.) The head and foot lengths are about 8', iirc. The one differencs with jwright's setup is that one of my 'porch' tieouts is a piece of kelty triptease lightline.

I use a clove hitch on the two porch "posts" (usually 6'-7' sticks). if it rains, i can just lean out (way out) and pull the bottoms in under me. the weight of the sticks keeps that side of the tarp down pretty tight, even during storm, and best of all, i don't have to go out in the rain to re-tie anything.

9-10 ft for 4 season. It's nice having alittle extra when you might need to guy out to a root or sapling.

Thanks all, I was just about too look this up!

    One thing I do:

For my tarp in Door mode: (8x10 rectangle, ordered a SuperFly!)
I have a 3' piece of shock cord on each door tie-out. I tie the doors to the tie-out loop on the opposite side. to enter the tarp from the end, I just pull the doors apart and step through... They automatically snap back into place... No muss, no fuss...
