First Solo - Sipsey Wilderness, AL

I will embark on my first solo hike/camp in less than an hour!! After a 2.5 hour drive to the Sipsey Trailhead (200) I plan to walk in about a mile and setup for the night. The plan is to continue up 200 to the 207 and then to the 208 and across to the 224-208 junction. I will setup at the 224-208 junction and explore the area for the afternoon on Saturday. Sunday Morning I will plan to continue on the 208 to the 206 and then to the 209 trail. Then to the 204a and 204 (the big tree) area and hopefully meet up with Squidbilly and maybe a few fellow hangers from the Oxford area. I plan to stay in that area Sunday night. Monday morning hike out on the 209 back down to the Sipsey Trailhead. Come home, suit up, and go to an agency meeting in Oxford on Monday night. This should be in the 25 mile range not counting any exploring off the trail. I am super excited!! I plan to have a full report of course and plan to film a goodbit of the trip in "Les Stroud" style with a two cameras. (I may pitch that idea after walking back to get the camera a few times ) Whoooo buddy amd I excited!

Chriss, that is going to be a great trip! Keep warm! I hope there is just enough moisture to keep the waterfalls going for you. They can go from garden hose to Niagara in a matter of hours!

Enjoy yourself. It's been over forty years since I've done my first solo hike, and it changed my world forever after. They say that you never forget your first kiss, well, I have to confess, I remember my first solo hike in much greater detail than my first kiss : )

Ok ok... I promise on Sunday I will do a trip report and put up a few pics. Just seems like its hard to find 30 minutes of "me time" around here these days. (3 kids 11,3 and 2). But i would not have it any other way because i know they will grow up fast. It was no doubt a wonderful experience and I can't wait to do it again. Something about the solitude and alone time really put things back into perspective for me.

So the Les Stroud filming method didn't work out so well?
