5th Annual Mt Rogers Winter Hang report

Couldn't have asked for much better weather & people for a winter hammock hang!!!
There will be much more to come but a few basics are that every one did well. A few of us could have used better foot wear for standing around on packed snow, & a few slept a little on the cool side I believe, but most slept toasty warm.
My thermometer read a low of 7.7 Fri night (actually 6am Sat), but some had lower readings.

Some came early Thurs & hiked into Wise Shelter to spend a cold, windy night, but most of us arrived Fri.
    A few arrived Sat.

There were several day hikes to be told about, & the GHSP Rangers were great folks. A pleasure to meet & talk to.

Everyone got off to a good start home, several stopped to eat at the Log House Restaurant.
The roads, even at higher elevations were in good condition, so hopefully everyone should be home soon.

Thanks again to all who took part! Looking forward to more stories, pictures & videos!!!

BTW, I think the new location for our winter hang was considered a very good thing by most of our campers.
Near perfect in my opinion for so many people testing new limits.
Lots of conveniences & safety factors built in. And plenty of hiking available for those that want it.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I haven't really posted or seen my hammock in months.
But I was with you guys in spirit.
One of these days I'll be able to get back out for some hangs.

Mostly posting so that I can be subscribed for the pics.

Here is a video of our hang and hike at Mt Rogers and pictures of the horses at Massie Gap, with the view to the southwest.

My thermometer said the low on Friday night was -2*F, but the battery died on Saturday night. It was 5*F when we turned in at midnight Saturday.

Great Hang great meeting so many folks from here and putting names on faces. I was only able to stay Friday night as I had things responsiblities at church on Sunday I felt I needed to be there for. But had a great first winter hang. Actually stayed warm in my antiquated sleeping gear above ground. Saw some great equipment. Looks like a Speer Polarpod from TTTrailgear is going on my wish list!
    Thanks to all!
