Thanks for all the comments everyone. I've already seen 1 modification I'll make on the next one. That is to extend the legs above the hinge enough and angle them to where when they are opened they will butt against each other. As it isnow the side legs only touch at the corners and the rear leg dosen't touch the others at all.

It's hard to tell your wife of 38 years no, but I did! The TLS got put on the front burner. I was giving her my old stand & hammock and building the TLS for myself. 2"x2"x6' fir was chosen as leg material since this will be a fulltime and travel stand. While contemplating a joining method that would allow ease of setup and storage for travel I ran across these hinges. The rest of the stand followed Turtlelady's design and incorporated many of the design tweeks of the many others who have built this stand. Many thanks to the Turtlelady and to others who advanced this design. Peace and good sleep shall reign in this house!
    Wow...

This thread has officially become a classic. Too bad I can't quote your attached pics.

Great job, tho!! Looks pretty tough to beat.

Sounds interesting. I don't know anything about rattan except for seeing rattan furniture. Where can we find rattan?

I built my stand last night and will post pictures tomorrow. To help with the lashing slipping I used friction tape. I use this when putting wraps on hiking sticks to keep them from moving around and so far it works well. I found some bamboo in my building that had been left by the previous owner. I have lived here for 15 years so I know it is older than that. The bamboo had a few cracks in it but seemed sound. I test each tripod after lashing with my full weight with no problems. I laid in my hammock for about an hour last night in the family room watching TV using this stand. Very happy with the design. Thanks Turtlelady and others for design and variations.

Turtlelady, (or somebody else), have you ever tested your stand with the Eureka! Chrysalis hammock tent ? I thought I read somewhere you had one. And I'm curious if it would work.
I've been having issues with my tarp over the hammock (too cold outside, moisture, annoying to get in and out because of the legs of the stand,... ) and was thinking I could fix the whole thing by just getting one of those. They're on discount here right now, that's why I ask. Again, no pictures of my last campout, sorry, I know I promised, but I was too cold, tired & busy to be bothered taking pics (following classes).
